According to sleep expert and neuroscientist Matthew Walker, we should ideally be getting 7 - 9 hours of sleep a night, but a recent study shows that one in two people get less than 6 hours! Sleep is essential for a healthy functioning brain and body because it's during sleep that a sewage system kicks into gear and cleanses the brain of all the metabolic toxins that have built up during the day.
When we don’t have a good nights sleep there is a 60% amplification in your brains fear response (amygdala) which is why you’ll feel more anxious, quickly react with anger to things, struggler to focus and generally find it hard to self regulate your emotions.
